Conductor Emil Oberhoffer founded the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1903 (now the Minnesota Orchestra). He served in that capacity for nineteen years. Oberhoffer was integral in elevating the quality of music in Minnesota, as a teacher and lecturer, founder of the chair of music at the University of Minnesota, founder the the Schubert Choral Association, Schubert Orchestra, and other music groups.
