2 Postals from WWII: PVT Theo L Swenson / Co M 2nd Inf / 36206262 / APO # 5. Censored Army Examiner 00952 postmarked December 15 at 3:30 PM. Includes letter dated December 9, 1942 with greeting, Dear Sis, and envelope with Christmas card from Cpl Frank R. Gardner (I think this is the surname) / 37316312 / Co B 714th TK BN / Fort Jackson, South Carolina, U.S. Army postmarked Dec 20 1943 at 3:30 PM. Please examine the accompanying photographs for a visual description. The APO cancel was opened by tearing the side edge. The APO cancel is light but readable all except for the number, which is partially visible. I have enhanced the photo below for closer examination here. Both envelopes have minor soil and browning. The Frank R envelope is missing the flap with the gummed edge for sealing the envelope, it looks to have been torn off. The letter written by Ted (Theo L Swenson) is one of the most ambiguous war letters that I have read. There is a comment about a woman named Agnes, wondering "if there is something going wrong on that end. Hope not." There is also the family-type conversation that does not connect, when he wished Bill and Bob luck trapping, with the next remark about the value of his bonds at the end of the war. Ted also finds it humorous that his sister commented on him being a corporal in her last letter when he is not a PFC as of yet. What is clearly missing is any comment about his location or the people with him-wherever he is, or the weather where he is...or anything personal in regard to his emotions. Both envelopes are addressed to Mrs. William Becvar in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Free shipping on domestic orders $25 and over!
