Rare antiquarian copy in poor condition of Ye Book of Ye Words: American Opera Sylvia or The Nymph of Diana: Ballet in Two Acts and Four Tableaux by Jules Barbier and Merante AND The Marriage of Jeannette: A Comic Opera in One Act by Victor Masse, Theodore Thomas Conductor, 1886. The book block is intact with no added markings or notations, some corner end creases, light soil, age toning/deepening color, no significant tears. The book block is three gatherings, stapled. Staples show rust. Back cover is not present. Front cover paper wrap shows significant wear, pieces missing around all four edges. Pages are numbered consecutively throughout book, each work having its own title page. Steinway advertisement inside front cover. The American Opera founded by Jeannette Meyers Thurber with Theodore Thomas (founder of Chicago Symphony) as conductor ran only two seasons before succumbing to significant financial problems.
